Which rubber is better EPDM or NBR for hydrochloric acid 10% (HCl)?
In order for the mechanical seal to work in the Wilo pump for pumping hydrochloric acid 10%, you need to choose the right rubber material.
Rubber type:
- NBR - NBR
- EPDM - ethylene propylene rubber
Which rubber - EPDM or NBR?
The correct choice is an EPDM mechanical seal
What is EPDM and NBR?
EPDM rubberare synthetic elastomers. International designationEPDM. It has good resistance to heat and acids. EPDM also withstands 10% hydrochloric acid - HCl.
Nitrile rubber or NBR nitrile rubber - this is considered the standard material for mechanical seals. O-rings made of NBR rubber are highly resistant to swelling against benzenes, oils and fats.
Key properties of EPDM and NBR
EPDM< /td> | NBR< /td> |
Hot water up to 120°C |
Water up to 40°C |
Hydrochloric acid 10% |
Does not apply to acids and alkalis. |
A large amount of organic and inorganic bases and acids |
Aliphatic hydrocarbons, i.e. propane, butane, gasoline, mineral oils (lubricating oil, hydraulic oils of groups H , H - L , H - LP ) |
Organic and inorganic alcohols |
Oils |
Glycol based brake fluids |
Fats |
Frion R134a |
|
Detergents, sodium (soda) and potassium alkalis |
|
High amounts of solvents (e.g. alcohol=alcohols, ketones, ester) |
