Butterfly gate valves
Butterfly valve (damper) is a type of pipe fittings in which the locking or regulating element has the form of a disk that rotates around an axis perpendicular or at an angle to the direction of the flow of the working medium. Most often, such fittings are used for large pipeline diameters, low medium pressures and reduced requirements for the tightness of the working body, mainly as shut-off valves.
In butterfly valves, the closing element, that is, the valve, has the shape of a disk that can block the passage of the working medium through the annular seat in the body by turning (usually by 90°) the valve around an axis perpendicular to the direction of the medium flow, while the axis of rotation of the disk can be its own axis (axial butterfly valves) or not coincide with the axis (eccentric butterfly valves).
Butterfly valves, like ball valves, are one of the most modern and progressive types of valves, which have many important advantages, including:
- Small building length and weight;
- Simplicity of design, small number of parts;
- Relative ease of repair, the ability to quickly replace the sealing elements;
- Possibility of application for big diameters of pipelines.
